And the Oscar Goes To...

Recently I had the pleasure of watching one of the ‘80s most spellbinding cinematic productions, Breakin’. This little gem tells the story of how a strong modern female of the mid ‘80s, portrayed by Lucinda Dickey, rises to stardom through the art of street dancing. She risks it all for a shot at the big time, managing to defeat the movie’s walking cliché of a villain in one final dance off. Between the phenomenal acting and gripping dialog, this movie was nothing short of a masterpiece. The stellar performances given by Dickey’s co-stars, Aldolfo “Shabba-doo” Quinones and Michael “Bugaloo Shrimp” Chambers, were topped only by the genius of director Joel Silberg who is responsible for other classics such as Rappin’ and Prison Heat. The colorful cast of characters and riveting plot line leaves no doubt in my mind that Breakin’ is one for the ages; I give this movie a perfect 14 out of 10.
