1. The Football playing robot on Fox Sundays
Does anyone know who came up with this television gem? It's this stupid looking robot that has armor loosely representing pads. Does he play in a Robot football league? Why doesn't Fox treat me to some robot football games? Maybe they could set something up like the Bud Bowls (possibly one of the best marketing ploys of our generation) and play it during the Super Bowl. What seems more likely is they will continue to play the same clip of the robot jumping up and down then running and pointing. Why is he always there? Six years ago this would've been an impressive piece of computer animation. Now it just seems like Fox is betting on everyone being too drunk to notice that they fired all the graphic designers.
2. HDTV commercials
Every Sunday when I'm watching football, I'm inundated with commercials for various high def tv's. Whether its the mirrors or some sort of jaguar covered in diamonds, the high def commercials are everywhere. They even have NFL themed HD commercials. All of them involve these really crystal clear images and the promise that you'll get to see everything you ever watch in amazing clarity. To me this is a really stupid marketing strategy. Obviously they're trying to persuade owners of regular tv's, like myself, that their tv is much clearer. Why would you should me all these really sharp pictures that I can see in clear detail in order to convince me that my tv is fuzzy? If I were advertising for HDtv I'd show a lot of blurry images or scenes you'd really want to see in high def then point out things you can't see in the normal picture. Are they doing this? Of course not. But at least they keep me satisfied with my regular tv.
