Dem Resolution Against the Escalation
So, I can't claim to be an expert on non-binding resolutions or any of those exciting details of actual legislation, but if all of the hullabaloo about Congress' opposition to the surge is about this "Concurrent Resolution", well... consider me a tad underwhelmed. I mean, there's a lot of outrage about this war, there's a lot of public support for withdrawal (something like 70% I think), and the best the super serious new Democratic Congress can do is say they "disapprove" of the surge? And they only say that after an ass-covering commitment to continue supporting the troops, whatever that means. Maybe I'm naive and this is what passes for a smackdown in the rarefied air of DC, but it doesn't seem like this resolution is going to save any lives, American or Iraqi, and that's really the bottom line as far as I'm concerned. Baby steps I guess, and this resolution is better than nothing, but as for Bush giving a damn about this thing, I'm not holding my breath.
