Extremism is funny

Another hilarious product of extremism, in this case extreme conservatism, has recently come to my attention. Conservapedia is an alternate version of Wikipedia, with an extremely conservative bias. They are “a much-needed alternative to Wikipedia, which is increasingly anti-Christian and anti-American.” Now I’ll concede that Wikipedia may be a little to the left, just a little. However, calling it Anti-American is laughable. I often use Wikipedia for everything from studying for exams to this blog and I’ve found it to be an extremely useful supplement with very little bias. Nevertheless, I always like to keep an open mind, so I searched the most conservative figure I could think of, Ann Coulter. Frankly, after reading only a few of the numerous sections on her life and career, I found nothing that would indicate a left wing bias. Before anyone comes at me for the fact that the article does site numerous occasions on which she made extremely right wing remarks, I know; but the authors don’t bash her for it, they only state what she has said (a lot).

So, why again do we need Conservapedia? I really don’t know, but I imagine it’s a self congratulatory ploy used to reinforce the extreme conservative’s self beliefs. I mean what better way to keep those sneaky socialist jews from giving their children the gay virus?

Originally I really had nothing to say about Conservapedia, they seemd to be very professional in appearance claiming to have “over 3,800 educational, clean and concise entries on historical, scientific, legal, and economic topics”. With that being said, I searched some of the most common scientific topics, of which I only found one, the theory of evolution. I guess I should have expected what I found, I’ll let you guys search it yourselves if you want. Suffice it to say, the topic was extremely bias; this however did not upset me, as Conservapedia makes no claim to be unbiased, in fact they clearly state “Conservapedia is an online resource and meeting place where we favor Christianity and America.” However they also boast being “one of the largest user-controlled free encyclopedias on the internet.” Forgive me for being so presumptuous, but I was always under the impression encyclopedias were supposed to be unbiased sources of information. So…. Stop fucking calling yourself an encyclopedia.
