As the faithful already know, the Phillies lost their first game of the season, and they did it in dramatic fashion in extra innings.
- Brett Myers. He looked strong all day, striking out 9 and walking out two in 7 2/3. He only looked really uncomfortable against Chipper Jones, walking him twice and giving up a single to him.
- Rollins’ homer. Good to know he still has some pop in his bat. Also, despite wiffing three times, he did so after seeing a lot more pitches than we’re used to watching him see. I’m going to be keeping a close eye on him early on in the season to see if this improved patience really does exist.
- Pat Burrell swinging. It was a quiet day for him, but he went down the right way when he did.
- The disastrous leaving runners in scoring position. After a questionable decision to bat Brett Myers in the bottom of the seventh, he draws a leadoff walk and then Rollins loops a double, putting runners at second and third with no outs. Did we capitalize? Absolutely not.
- Brett Myers pitching the 8th. I know we don’t like our bullpen, but his pitch count was getting high, and he led off the bottom of the seventh in batting. He should have been pulled before the opportunity for Renteria to crank one. I know we don’t like our bullpen, but couldn’t we have gone Geary/Gordon.
- Madson throwing a high fastball to Renteria with a runner on first and two strikes on Edgar. Awful awful decision, and Renteria showed why. Speaking of things I don’t like…
- Edgar Renteria. Twerp.
