The Phillies pick up their first win of the season against the Marlins last night, winning 8-2 down in Dolphins Stadium. My thoughts:
1. Burrell is working on adjusting his batting stance. He doesn't quite feel comfortable with it, but so far, so good. Pat turned the game into a rout last night after a three run shot. What happened right before Pat's homerun? With 1st base open, Howard got walked. This is why Pat is absolutely critical to the Phillies' success this year. Burrell has the hottest bat on the team right now, and it made me angry to see him get booed when I went to the second game of the season.
2. Moyer did not pitch as well as Hamels or Myers in my opinion, but he got the job done, and that's what is expected of the third starter in your rotation (I can't consider Eaton our third starter).
3. Freddy Garcia stopped by to say hello yesterday. His fastball is reaching 91 MPH on the gun, and if Garcia is crafty on the mound (he should be, with the help of Moyer), he can probably find success with this.
4. The bullpen is getting a boost with Francisco Rosario and Rick Bauer joining the team, and Lieber returning (and headed to the pen) as early as Monday. Lieber belongs in the starting rotation. He has the best spring of all the Phils starters, and he wants to start games. Adam Eaton is getting shelled out there, and Lieber is a much more proven arm. I'll start a campaign for this should Eaton get destroyed again in his next start.
5. Phils go tonight against Marlins ace Dontrelle Willis, someone we handled all last year. We're putting Myers back on the mound. We need to win. End of story
