Quick Stains: Sunday, April 1

Watched opening night as the Mets pounded through the Cardinals to win their first game of the season. In case anyone forgot, the Mets are still a pretty good time with a couple good offensive producers (note the sarcasm). A couple of things worth noting, about this game and some Phillies-related stuff:

1. I think Carpenter will be fine. Taguchi could have played Delgado's 2-run double a little better and maybe gotten an out, and Paul LoDuca hit a really well placed two-seamer to drive in two more. The Mets pounded out a lot of solid hits on Carpenter, but it could have been a much closer game. Should Carpenter not be fine, the Cardinals are going to be in a lot of trouble this year; moreso than they already are.

2. The old men won the BPAS successes of the day, with both Valentin and Alou making very strong defensive plays to help seal the deal for the Mets. On the younger end of the scale, Beltran gunned David Eckstein down at the plate.

3. I'm in full support of Tom Glavine hitting 300 wins, and after tonight, he is one closer. I am also in full support of none of those wins coming against the Phillies.

4. Stephen A. Smith babbled about Dice-K for an article's worth.

5. Pat Burrel gave Terry Francona the finger. It was awesome.

6. Throw caution to the win. Forget about your fears of our bullpen. Read this for assistance in doing these things.

7. I think Brett Myers needs to make a statement and he needs to make it tomorrow. What is the statement? I'm this team's ace, and I'm pitching opening day for a reason. Get out of my face, Braves.

8. 1 PM tomorrow the glory begins. Go Phils.
