Quick Stains: May 11th

Phils win a game where Pat Burrell does the lion’s share of the hitting with 2 homers and 5 RBIs. Nice way for the Phils to start their homestand.

  1. Hamels was once again an ace on the mound, giving up only a couple of solo homers to Soriano and Aramis Ramirez, two phenomenal hitters.
  2. Howard did not see any action, although by the time pinch hitting became necessary, the game was well in hand and his services were unnecessary.
  3. Hamels is now tied for the NL lead in Wins with 5.
  4. Burrell’s two shots were more than he’s hit all year, and were also his first home runs at Citizen’s Bank Park this year.
  5. It’s interesting how little attention I’ve paid to where we are in the standings, not only because it’s so early in the season, but because we’ve been below .500 for the entire year. It’s almost not worth even considering until we can get back to the even mark. That’s the first goal.
  6. Interesting assessment here of Gillick's work thus far, and also a look at the cabal that brought him on board.
  7. Gordon's in the hospital with flu-like symptons. Unfortunate for him.
  8. Howard's trying to get back on track, and you can read about it here. It is hard to get back on track when you don't play, but we certainly want a healthy Howard.
Angel Guzman goes for the Cubs tomorrow against Freddy Garcia.
