Stainy Neglect: Going Huge

As Plumpy’s Ghost was kind enough to point out, we here at Stain Club have been staining it up the past few days with a minimum of no posts a day. Me, I’m oh-for the last week, week and half, mostly because I just graduated and have been searching for employment. Excuses, excuses as they say. I don’t like them myself, but that’s the way of the world sometimes.

Any way, just to throw something up for the sake of it, Deadspin and the Washington Post have picked up on this story concerning a quite attractive teenager whose sport of choice is (wait for it) pole-vaulting! Interesting stuff considering all this hype surrounding this affair began with this picture of her.

Clearly, she is quite an attractive girl, but the point of concern is how quickly the photo was spread to various blogs and then to the laptops and computers of horny, adolescent boys and older, grossly randy middle-aged dudes. It has gotten to the point that the girl has to be careful as to where she goes whenever she leaves the house because people immediately recognize her from the photo.

Two things can be taken from this story and the first is the fact that men, as we all know, are more sexually driven women. This is a proven fact, and considering the rate that this photo spread from blog to blog and desktop to laptop, I have to say that the only reason it was propagated in such a fast fashion was that every guy is always looking for a hot girl to take a gander at and wish he could get into bed because deep down, guys are sex machines. They love the pretty ones, the curved ones, the sexy ones, and most of all, they love the boobies and the booty. I can’t recall an instance of a picture of a nineteen year-old gymnast or wrestler ever being sent from website to website in such a way.

Unfortunately for this young girl, she is now the unofficial pin-up of the week or month and her private life, it seems, is clearly being invaded. That brings me to the second point, which is that the internet has a downside some times. Communication technology has apparently gotten to the point where the life of a normal person can be wrecked within a few days. It sucks, but hey, I’m not saying we have to destroy the internet. I’m also not advocating any sort of solutions right now because, honestly, how do you prevent such a vast array of people from sending images, let alone information, to each other? It’s just something to think about.
