Iraq Funding Plays

I've said before that I think we need to get out of Iraq as quick as possible, but I'm skeptical about moves like this. Feingold (D-WI) is urging Democrats to cut off funding for the war. Now, I agree that the president needs to be made aware that he no longer controls all three branches of the government, but it's important to remember that the most powerful Republican smear over the past couple years is the ridiculous claim that being against the war is equivalent to being against the troops. It's obvious that true support of the troops would probably come in the form of getting them out of harm's way, but the accusation that an anti-war stance is unpatriotic is much more concise, and it's proved its longevity. If cutting funding is what it takes for Bush to get the message then so be it. It's risky for Democrats politically, but I'm tired of political considerations overriding more important issues (like loss of human lives) in the decisions that are made about this war, so maybe it's time for Dems to try out something that's been deemed political "suicide."
