Mythological warnings about modern medicine

Recently at work, I was reading about how Pfizer and the FDA have been considering making Viagra an over the counter drug. There are probably few more unrealistic ideas than this. Remember, several states had to take Sudafed back behind the counter because people abuse it and use it in their meth labs. Do you really think that everything will be okay when they release a drug to the general public that improves, shall we say, such vital statistics? While the FDA and Pfizer muddle their way through this remarkably obvious decision, we can turn to Greek mythology to learn about the inevitable results: The Greek God Priapus.

Generally speaking, Priapus is the God of never-ending erections. Why Viagra isn't named after this I have no idea. Nike is the Goddess of Victory... highly appropriate for athletic shoes. I think Pfizer dropped the ball on this one. Will Pfizer put Viagra on my CVS shelf? Hard to say... but what I do know is there are going to be a lot more unintentional devotees of this little known Greek God if they do.
