Congress Locates Balls, Bush Doesn't Care

A while back I lamented the fact that Democrats in Congress couldn't do any better than a non-binding resolution opposing the surge. Today they announced that they would be proposing a binding resolution to essentially schedule an end to the war. Three guess how the White House responded. You got it:
"The administration would vehemently oppose and, ultimately, veto any legislation that looks like what was described today"

Everyone knows that Bush will stay in Iraq until either Laura or Barney tells him not leave, but it really bugs me that a President would promise a veto before even seeing the actual legislation. Once again, call me naive, but I would love to think that the will of the people matters to our elected officials at least a little bit. I guess the earliest we can hope to leave Iraq is January 2009, no matter what the majority of Americans and Congress say.
