Libby Goes Down

So Scooter Libby got convicted on 4 of 5 charges, and now we'll see a big appeal and that nonsense, and a lot of people don't even know what the case is about, and who cares anyway cause it's just some guy with a funny nickname, right?

I just want to remind everyone that the only reason we know Scooter Libby's name at all is that he happens to be the lowest level person in the administration that they could use as a scapegoat, and he's the Chief of Staff of the Vice President (and the most powerful VP in history, at that). If they could have limited it to, say, some low level privates like they tried to do in the Abu Ghraib torture scandal then they would have, but the fact that they could only limit it to such a high ranking member of the administration speaks volumes. It's like amputating your leg while attempting to claim you never had gangrene in the first place.

The Libby verdict is the first of what I hope will be many steps in the process of holding these men to account for what they've done to this country - and I'm sure history will damn Bush if the courts don't get their chance - but it's really all moot unless we get the soldiers out of there before another one dies.
