"If I was Heather Wilson, I'd be thinking about taking a long trip to Baghdad, where the conditions are a little more subdued."
--former New Mexico Gov. Dave Cargo, a Republican, on the fallout from the U.S. attorney purges
Heather Wilson is a Representative involved with the brewing scandal, but that's not really what caught my eye. My question is about Mr Cargo's use of Baghdad as a rhetorical device. On the one hand I suppose it shows that he's got an idea of horror and tragedy over there, which is more than can be said of, say, Laura Bush, but on the other hand it's pretty dismissive of that horror and tragedy. I think the gravity of the Iraq war ought to preclude jokes and off-handed remarks about it (which is really the only problem I had with Kerry's election season botched joke), but I can't claim to be offended by this comment. I guess I'm just putting it out there as a contextually interesting mention of the war.
Added, I got this quote from here, credit where it's due and all...
