The Supreme Court Goes Huge

A few weeks ago I wrote about the urgent need to change our environmental outlook. The need to cleanup emissions in particular has moved beyond an individual effort. Governments have a responsibility to step in and regulate emissions, as well as provide funding for alternative energy sources which could reduce greenhouse-inducing emissions. This Monday the Supreme Court got it together and passed a ruling requiring the EPA to align its policies with the clean air act; as well as requiring congress to act faster on environmental policies.

While this ruling marks only a small victory in the push for cleaner environmental policies, it’s a relief to see that our government is beginning to move in the right direction. The International Panel on Climate Change is set to submit its final report (the second of four) this Friday on the dangers global warming poses to this planet. With the publication of the IPCC’s environmental reports, as well as an awareness of the urgency of our current situation, I hope to see an increase in the speed with which environmental policies are established not only in this country, but across the globe.

In the same way as you don’t need to work for the Federal Reserve to acknowledge when the economy has taken a hit; you need also not be an environmentalist to recognize the urgency with which environmental attitude needs to change. This issue is something that all people, regardless of political affiliation, can appreciate.
