Metaphor for the whole war

They made a big wall to list the names of all of our fallen soldiers. That wall is now full, with no room for even any of the soldiers who have died in the past few months.

Once again, if everyone thought we would only lose as many soldiers as would fit on the wall - say 3,000 - then why was there no plan to limit our losses to that many? Occupiers continue to lose soldiers for as long as the occupation lasts. It's really that simple, so why don't we leave, or at least begin to plan to do so?

Another thing, what's the Iraq and Afghanistan war memorial going to look like? I suppose we can't begin to plan for that until after the war (occupation) ends, so no hurry.
